UK AxiaLIF Training Centre has hit land mark of operating on over 70 patients
October 2010
The UK AxiaLIF Training Centre at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport has recently achieved the land mark success of carrying out the AxiaLIF procedure on over 70 patients. To mark this occasion the operating surgeons, Mr Brian Todd, Mr Vik Kapoor and Mr Vaneet Tandon were presented with an AxiaLIF style cake from Trans 1 (manufacturer) and Surgi C (distributor).
Carolyn Burke, Product Manager at Surgi C has feedback ‘I am pleased that the team at Stepping Hill have now carried out over 70 AxiaLIF cases, showing that the pre-sacral approach is a viable alternative to the more traditional approaches for lumbar fusion at L5-S1, particularly when facing revision situations where scar tissue can make traditional approaches more problematic.’
This has also been echoed by the surgeons, where Mr Brian Todd has feedback that ‘the technique is easy to learn and the minimally invasive approach used, with no muscle fibre division is the unique advantage of this approach to anterior spinal fusion.’
Surgi C is looking forward to continuing to work with Stepping Hill and supporting the use of the AxiaLIF technique.
